Writing for Therapy

We all experience emotionally hard times and one of the biggest suggestions therapists have is to keep a journal using it to write down your feelings and experiences.  But sometimes the therapy you need is an escape.  There is nothing quite like projecting yourself into characters, developed in your own mind.  Getting their lives and drama out on paper is liberating.  It's a chance to separate you from your own problems and stressors, even if it's only for a few minutes or an hour to help put everything in perspective.

I challenge you to propel yourself into a story formulated from your own mind and translated into words, either on to the amazing ancient invention of paper, thousands of years old or dust off that old manual typewriter.  Even better is you can write directly on your smart phone or computer.

Here are a few writing prompt suggestions to get you started on your daily therapy.  Sometimes you don't need analyze everything that's going on around you; you may just need to escape for a moment.

Mind Challenge prompts:
Sitting in a Paris cafe, a stranger taps you on the shoulder…
The nation is controlled by…
The hotel pool is filled with blue jello…
Watching a horror movie at the local cinema, screams come from the hallway…

Born to be a Villain!

TNT's Murder in the First rocked the airwaves with a stunning, consistent performance by Tom Felton.  You may know him as Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter series of movies in which he had a great role as a spoiled brat antagonist.  But he took primetime by storm with his performance as Erich Blunt, a young mogul and sociopath.

With such a jaw-dropping performance, he may be typecast, but he will reel you in and not let you go as you witness atrocity after atrocity unfold.  You will be floored by his style and execution for such a complex character.  That is hard to do working side by side by the gorgeous Taye Diggs from How Stella Got Her Groove Back.  The character of Blunt is barbaric, sadistic, vicious, and evil wrapped up in a brilliant mind.

Murder in the First has some tough shoes to fill for next season to top the reign of Erich Blunt.  Let’s see what they have in store.

Beware of Pirates! Vampires! and Love!

BUY SYBRINA ON AMAZON

“May I kiss you, Miss Sybrina?”
Darkening irises show me the fire that burns under her skin.  She wants me, just as much as I want her.  Her entire body stiffens except her head, which nods very subtly yes.  I reach out my arm to caress her around the waist, hauling her close to me.  I stare into her eyes that are distinctly thirsty with need, using my hand to tip her head up and lean down, pressing my lips to hers.  My need is triumphant, reveling in the sensation, kicking away the blandness that tortures my spirit and replaced by sweet berries in springtime.   A flood of core memories stabs at the vibrancy awakened in me.  The touching and kissing become ravenous, stronger than bloodlust. Sybrina is wild with passion... for me.  My hold tightens and my hands roam, wanting more.  It is a feverish awareness that in all my long years I have never experienced.

An alarm whirrs in the deep recess of my mind.  Sybrina is fighting against me.  The cloud of passion pops like a boil.  Audible now is her struggle to be free of me.

Mobster's Girl Ebook Alpha-male Mobsters! You can't help but fall in love!

Gripping my chest is the only way to hold myself together or what’s left of me will fall out. The past week has enlightened me on one thing-I don’t care.
Megan, Mobster’s Girl
I didn’t even hesitate. I took two strides and blasted him in the face with my fist. He was ready for it this time-unlike in church. He tried to hit me back but I ducked and smashed him again.
Antonio, Mobster’s Girl
You can’t help what family you’re born into or what lies they keep from you. You can’t help it if they mold and shape you just the way they wanted. Are monsters born or made?
Antonio and Megan have a timeless issue. They were told to stay away from each other. They try, they really do. But they are drawn to each other.
Antonio is eighteen and the up and coming mob boss of Palmetto, New Jersey. Megan is a girl uprooted from the grassy plains of Ireland at the age of five. Now she’s seventeen and faced with horrors she never thought existed.

Little Conversations by Sibylla Matilde

Review of Little Conversations for Amazon 2013

GREAT BREAKOUT NOVEL!

The author captures a vibrant portrait of the characters and their motives.  The hero is Ronin.  He is a broken hearted male who’s behavior had manifested itself into separation and bitterness, until he meets Devin.
The two characters find solace and comfort in each other.

This book is an in depth analysis of a young girl’s struggle with a failed relationship.  It is about a young girl who goes back to the person who is no good for her (Jake).  Devin’s internal struggle is realistic and emotional.  Her behavior is what we hope to never see in a daughter or a sister, but all too often happens.

The plot is appealing and forces us to look at the situation with ambiguity.  We root for Ronin and Devin to find themselves and meet on the common ground they already possess, but also feel torn by the events that take place and the characters’ well-being.

I highly recommend this New Adult book.  It is engaging, thought provoking, timeless, and very well done.
